MiTio, the Medical Interpreting and Translating Institute Online, provides on-demand video interpreting services for healthcare facilities, featuring a straightforward app for clients to request remote interpreting services easily.
The pay-per-use app allows clients to choose interpreters from 200 different languages. It processes requests fast and offers high-quality calls for ease of communication. The goal is to make interpreting services affordable and more accessible to the public. All MiTio medical interpreters are trained professionals specialized in the healthcare field. Customers can give feedback and see interpreter rates through the app. They can also ask for a specific interpreter if they want to do so.
MiTio also provides training for professional Medical Interpreters to access the CCHI and NBCMI certifications. The MiTio courses are accredited with IMIA. In 2010, IMIA carried out a compensation survey among more than 4000 interpreters. 60% of them worked with Spanish. The results showed that in 2010 the majority of interpreters were paid $15-$25 per hour. Rates for in-person medical interpreting and remote interpreting did not differ significantly.
The MiTio Medical Interpreter Certificate Course allows interpreters to access the NBCMI and CCHI exams. CCHI stands for Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters. The CCHI provides national certification for interpreters of all languages since 2009.
The 40-hour training for medical interpreters is necessary to be admitted to take the exam for the NBMI and CCHI certifications.
