Hi! I am at the third stage of MiTio Medical Interpreting Diploma Program and I am very excited about it. The certificate training course is the first step to have access to the CCHI Certification, recognized nationwide in the US for medical interpreters.
I have been working as a translator and interpreter since 2012, I have travelled around the world during my university studies, with exchange programs in Spain, Brazil and Scotland. My languages of work are English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French, and my mother tongue is Italian. Therefore, I work as an English to Italian, Spanish to Italian, and Portuguese to Italian interpreter based in Rome, and I also provide translations from French to Italian in Rome, Italy.
Medical interpreters are part of the healthcare service system, and their high level of performance is of the utmost importance. There is an increasing level of cultural and linguistic diversity in the range of people who have access to the healthcare system in the United States.
A healthcare provider, for instance a doctor or a nurse, is any person who performs or coordinates healthcare services provided to patients. The healthcare professionals are often referred to in English by their acronym. For example, PA stands for Physician Assistant. The interpreter must be careful because not all the healthcare professions regulated in the US exist in other countries. This is something that any trainee is surely going to keep in mind for their future career as a medical interpreter.
