Become a Medical Interpreter with MiTio’s Online Certificate Course
Let me say this. I have been to Florida and spent 3 months there in 2017 and 1 month in 2019, and I really think it is one of the most amazing and diverse states in the US.
Due to the presence of an extremely large Hispanic community, the foundation of ATIF, the Florida Chapter of ATA, really makes sense. And there are not only Spanish speakers in Florida. There are some cities, like Deerfield Beach, sometimes humorously referred to as “Deerfield de Janeiro”, where the prevalent community speaks Brazilian Portuguese, and capoeira is frequently played on the beach.
That said, let’s get down to business. ATIF provides professional development for interpreters and translators based in Florida. ATIF promotes networking through a monthly gathering for professional interpreters and translators in different cities around Florida. Moreover, ATIF hosts the ATA certification exam in Miami on a regular basis, once or twice a year. The exam usually takes place on a Saturday morning and is scheduled from 9 AM to 12 PM. Enrollment procedures for the ATA certification exam are managed directly through the ATA website, while ATIF only provides the location and qualified proctors for the exam.
Let’s move on to a different state. CAPI, the Colorado Association of Medical Interpreters, has a very colorful website, as the name of the Association’s state would suggest. The website features a directory of members, a list of 55 members, and promotes the CAPI 2020 Virtual Conference. CAPI, founded in 2001, aims at promoting the recognition of interpreters in Colorado. Moreover, CAPI supports training programs for medical interpreters, standards of ethics, and best practices. Some of CAPI members are experienced in multiple areas, while others are specialized in specific fields. So the association helps clients to find an interpreters who has the appropriate qualifications for the kind of job that needs to be done.
